Town Docks & A Note From Baysville

Published by Little Bird at 1:06 pm under Uncategorized

So it’s the day after the Huntsville Town Docks performance. In the month of August the town of Huntsville has an Art in the Park series, every Wednesday night they have a free public performance from different groups down at the the town docks. It was a perfect evening for the performance not to hot, not to cold, a light breeze was keeping us all comfortable. The group was about 30 people which is a little under half of the orchestra. So it was a decent size. But what was really a decent size was the crowd. Not only was there plenty of people for the performance lots of them actually showed up early and had their lawn chairs and blankets in tow. Even though we played with our backs to the water we had a few people pull up in their boats and enjoy the performance from there. As a matter of fact one of the boats was a pontoon boat from Rogers Cove (a local retirement residence) it was filled with a bunch of their residents who wanted to enjoy the show. And when I say we had our backs to the water I don’t mean the water was 20 feet behind us. The back row of the group was literally standing on the wood of the dock! Huntsville has become quite the tourist town especially in the summer and there were a lot of them there last night, but not only were there tourist there was a lot of former members and students who came to support us…that’s right I’m talking about you, Jackie, Tim & Kate :) …it was great to see everybody. We got a hearty ovation at the end and demands for an encore (my suspicion is that one of our fans Sharon started that). We never want to disappoint our audience so we played Toco Band as the encore.

Oh, did I mention that for the last several years we have played at the Baysville Boat Show, but this year it didn’t work out and they decided to try something different. Can’t blame them sometimes a change is really nice. Anyway the boat show was this past Sunday and at rehearsal on Monday night they read an email that the Orchestra had received. I can’t remember exactly what it said but it was sent on Sunday night and it went something like this…”I was wondering if we could book you back to Baysville for next year. We had numerous complaints today that you weren’t there. You have a huge following…and I hope you will take us back.” So if all things work out, it looks like we might be back at Baysville next year. Of course we never know what is coming this far in advance but I hope we can do it.

Well tonight we have another performance. This one is just down the street at the Girl Guide camp. They always have TONS of energy there. Then on Sunday we have a performance for a wedding at one of the local resorts (Grandview). I’ll let you know how it goes.
