OK, maybe not a heat wave, but as fall is in full swing and winter is about to kick in I would like to imagine I’m on a tropical island beach somewhere. It’s not so hard to imagine when you are working up a sweat at a rehearsal, but it’s definitely not the same thing.

The other night we played all the way through the latest song we are learning. I don’t remember if I told you about it…it’s actually not a new song for us. We played it a while ago, but dropped it as our repertoire grew. It has since been rearranged and we are doing it over. I liked this song the first time the orchestra played it and I still like it. Any how…we still have some detailing to go over in sections R & S. We should be done learning (that’s all relative) this week and start working it up to be speed. Which sometimes can mean a lot more learning.

I should explain what I mean when I say sections R & S. Each song is written by bars of course. But the bars are grouped in sections. First there is usually the intro and then section A, section B, section C, etc. The sections are usual broken up by verses, or melody changes in the song. When a song has 350 bars plus repeats and codas it can be a lot to tackle. By labeling the sections it makes it easier to find your spot in the music and to learn. Inch by inch, you know.
